Homemade Croutons

August 4, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post

The other night I went to make us salads with dinner and realized we didn’t have croutons in the pantry. I don’t do salad without croutons… they’re the best part! So I thought I’d finally take time to make some especially since I had some great ciabatta bread in the pantry that we hadn’t used yet.

And all I have to say is… why did I not start making my own croutons sooner?! They were wonderful. The first night I made them, I chopped them into one inch squares as shown in the photo above. Fabulous! Then I sliced the bread and baked them to make Crouton Chips to go with our soup the next night… amazing again!

Homemade Croutons

Ciabatta Bread
Olive Oil
Dried Parsley
Kosher Salt

Preheat oven to 375°F. Dice bread into one inch cubes. Drizzle lightly with olive oil. Season with kosher salt as desired and add dried parsley (or other herbs as desired). Toss to coat. Bake on lined, rimmed cookie sheet for 10-15 minutes until golden brown and desired crunchiness is reached. Cool completely. Can be made a day in advance and stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
