A Better Delish?

July 31, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post

Its hard to believe, but we’re only two months away from my third blogging anniversary! I’ve been working on a new site design the last two months! Its taking me awhile since I have no clue what I’m doing. My basic HTML knowledge does not translate into CSS knowledge by any means but I’ve made a lot of progress on the new site so far and I can’t wait to show off the new site. I’m hoping to launch the new site at the end of month but want to take this time to reach out to readers and ask for your feedback about what you like or don’t like about Delish, and how I can improve the site. I’d specifically love to hear your feedback in the following areas:

  • Content. What would you like to see? More healthy dishes? More ethnic dishes? More baking? More pet recipes? Any recipes or general food topics you’d like to see covered in the coming months? What types of food/recipes/techniques would you like to learn the most about? How-to posts? Cookbook reviews? Product reviews? Link roundups?
  • Design & Features. Do you find the navigation menu and sidebar useful? Are there things you’d like to see easily accessible? Features you’d like to see implemented? What would make your experience better?
  • Recipe Index. How do you like to search for recipes? Are the current categories to broad? Want more flexibility with search options?

While I promise to take every idea, suggestion, & comment in consideration, I can’t promise I’ll implement every suggestion. But please take a few moments and leave feedback in the comments or email me directly at delishfood@gmail.com.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!!! And thank you to all my wonderful loyal readers… you make blogging worthwhile!

i can’t waiiiiiit to see it! :D I personally would love to see more baking recipes….your meal/cooking recipes always look fabulous too but since I’m coping with this whole military thing by baking my a$$ off all the time I tend to subconciously search for interesting baking recipes! SO…go find some coworkers that need to add a few pounds…then bake some *funtastic* stuff and hand it off to them :D hehe

The only way to learn is to get “knee deep” in code and figure it out for yourself. It’s amazing what you can teach yourself! I kind of always thought of it as a puzzle that I had to put together. Good luck!

With football season upon us, I know I love to see party munchies and appetizers.

Sidebars are definitely good, as they allow visitors to navigate no matter where on the site they are.

I might also link your header image to index.html. My husband suggested that I do that on my site, and it seems like visitors tend to stick around a little longer if they can easily get back to the main page (if they come in from another site…like tastespotting, or another blog link).

Can’t wait to see what changes you come up with. Fresh changes are always fun!

thanks for your input Laura! its definitely a puzzle! i do enjoy it though and love when i finally figure something out! a clickable header was actually my number 1 priority. i hate not being able to get to a home page that way!

thanks for the input!

Hey Ash! Funny b/c I just checked the blog today and liked the design. I’m not a gourmet chef so I’m a fan of the more simple recipes that can pretty much be the entire meal if desired (example- cream chicken enchiladas). Great job…always love seeing your pics too. Keep it up!

Hey Ash! I love your food blog! I think you have a good variety of comfort foods and healthy cuisine. I would just like to continue to see more healthy options :) Keep up the good work :)

I agree with Keri. I’m more of a simple kind of gal, so I like the easy plain recipes. Not too much gourment (although some doesn’t hurt). My husband is not willing to branch out and try new things, so the more versions of enchiladas, tacos/taco casseroles, etc I can try – the better. The guy hates italian! WHO hates italian!?! Keep up the good work!!!

everything i have made from your site is AMAZING. seriously, i dont question trying something if it looks good. :)

one thing that might be cool is if you had an email option – so i could email myself the recipe i want to do that night – or send it to a friend. totally not a must do, just an idea i had in my head that might be cool.

keep up the great work!

Erin – you’ll be glad to know that emailing a post is a feature i’ve already built into the new site!

thank you guys for your kind words! keep the comments flowing!

I would love to be able to post a blog entry directly to Facebook for my friends who love to cook/bake. Here are the kind of recipes I need (and you already have a lot of these, more is good):
- short ingredient list
- makes great lunch leftovers
- anything grilled (cause Jon cooks those nights)
- slow-cooker recipes that are not your average stew (KWIM?)
- easy enough to do on a weeknight while chasing a baby/toddler and getting him ready for bed, or quick enough to do when he has gone down for the night and you are STARVING :)

I love your Delish just like it is. I love reading about your cooking endevors and Ethans (hubby that is)responses. It gives me the warm fuzzies, and a good chuckle. If you do change anything, I know it will be wonderful. Oh, I can’t wait to try the lettuce wraps, they sound yummy!
